  • South Africa is classified as a water stressed country, with an annual rainfall of 492 millimeters, which is only half of the global average of 985 millimeters.

  • 35% of South Africa receives less than 300 millimeters of rainfall per annum, and with increasing consumption driven by urbanization and improved provision of water to domestic households demand is expected to outstrip supply by 2025.

  • The biggest cause of water loss in the domestic environment is a leaking toilet and dripping taps.

  • A leaking toilet can result in the following losses:

  • - A toilet with a stripe stain in the pan will result in a 10KL p/m water loss.

  • -A toilet with a ripple in the pan will result in a 15-20KL p/m water loss.

  • A person living in 1st world environment uses 150L of water per day of which 60% is consumed for personal hygiene.

  • You only get 300L of free water per day from the municipality.

  • A leaking toilet can result in the loss of 850L per day.

  • 49% of household water consumption is used for personal hygiene.
